Today we biked about 12 miles. The sidewalks, trails, and sights were all within the gated community, Sun City. We stopped at the Model builders building and I couldn’t believe the sight that greeted me. There was a model train layout with the greatest attention to detail I had ever seen. Members of the club pay about $5.00 to join and then contribute what they build and increase the complexity of the overall layout. They’ve gone as far as space will allow and are awaiting larger quarters in the ever increasing new buildings currently undergoing construction. Sun City is increasing at an incredible rate and with only 20% of their population allowed to be in their 50’s the remaining 80% must be over 55 to live here. See the Model Makers Workshop at my Picasa site:
Part of our ride took us to the new section and the slides that I included are the new models ranging in price from $191,990 for a 1,103 sq. ft. home (parcel of land, not included) to $351,990 for 2,597 sq. ft. The homes we saw were decorated to the hilt. The decorators did a fantastic job; these home can be seen at my Picasa site:
This evening we traveled to Hilton Head, SC, just another 10 miles or so and enjoyed a wonderful meal at Carrabba’s Italian Grill http://www.carrabbas.com (COPY AND PASTE)and a quick walk to the ocean where it was very windy, overcast, and much too chilly for the likes of the southern folk, Rog & Wendy. After a brief description by Wendy (“OK, this is the ocean, let’s go”) we headed back to the car and home. Right now, at 11:52pm I hear thunder and the rain on the roof.
The day was an exercise day for me and our bike ride afforded me an excellent look and some things to ponder about this residential community. It continues to amaze me as to how fast things are being built, how wide-spread the building is, and, in this day and age, where the housing market all over is down the tubes, this place seems to be booming in all areas of building. The roads are being widened, the malls that are springing up all over the place are hidden behind the palms with only attractive signs out on the roadway for passers-by to know they exist. New homes are being built not only here in Sun City but all over the surrounding wooded areas. New communities are springing up all over; the amenities are too numerous to mention. Start at and select the price range and go from there. It’s amazing
